It may be only 35 degrees outside, but that should not stop anyone from putting some color into their outfits. Scrolling through your recent photos, I am sure that there is a surplus of black, grey, and white. Therefore I challenge you to still go for something other than the typical black sweater. Try something outside of your comfort zone!
You can start small with accessories. Medium sized coral earrings for example can add a spark to your outfit. Or, try a pair of brighter socks to wear with sneakers or loafers. I have even see some people start to wear socks with heels. Adding some color will not only make you think outside the box, but it will also give people the illusion that your wardrobe is larger than it is. When people see you in neutral after neutral, all of the silhouettes, and colors start to blur together. But when you pair some bright shoes with the sweater, or mint green pants, it will help to differentiate the ensemble vs. another day throwing on the black leggings or jeans.
My pop of color: Bright Yellow Heels
I fell in love with this Who What Wear dress at Target. I am in a product development class that works with Target Headquarters, which led us to interview ready-to-wear shopping customers for a few hours. After making numerous laps around the apparel section I just could not say no to this dress! It is a great staple piece because it is very versatile. It can be a piece to wear out casually, when you want to dress up a little for class, or even work. You can button up the collar all the way to give it a more crisp look, or unbutton it to give the collar a more relaxed feel.
Who What Wear’s color scheme at target consisted of navy, white, cream, black, and yellow. The yellow throughout their merchandise assortment was more mustard, or a lighter shade than my shoes. Their yellows made me realize that I had some yellow in my closet as well. I got these heels off of Amazon, and they are by the brand with the logo of a cursive D with a heart. (I threw away the box, and there is no name on the shoes!) There are so many different cute yellow heels all over amazon for great prices, I highly recommend browsing through to get inspiration.
Other accessories include a Marc Jacobs black and gold bangle which contrasts against the navy, with a crystal statement ring both from Saks Fifth Avenue OFF Fifth. I also used this cute black envelope booklet with gold zipper details. It doubles as looking like a clutch, with the functionality of a notebook.
This week: Get out there and add some color to your wardrobe
This pantsuit was the epitome of “it looks so good on the hanger let me try it on” Then once I tired it on, I was more so thinking “meh.” I personally was worried that from a distance it would look like I am this tan toned skin blob. This would look so much better on an olive skin tone. But, I rarely can find pantsuits and rompers that fit due to my long torso, so I decided to get in anyways. This is from Necessary Clothing in Soho New York. Necessary Clothing has everything fast fashion, and at really great prices.
My thought process: Everyone on spring break is out at the beach, so why not show off this pantsuit with the snow outside my door.
I also paired this look with some Sam Edelman booties, and a M.A.C. Rebecca Minkoff crossbody. Overall, this purchase opened myself up to buying more suede.
National hedgehog day is February 2nd, therefore cute little party hats were necessary!
Why did I get a hedgehog? I had seen them all over Instagram accounts, from bloggers to random animal accounts and fell in love! You could say they are even pretty trendy. Willis was a little camera shy on National Hedgehog Day unfortunately due to my roommates cat being in the room.
Some Instagram accounts to check out:

Finding a hedgehog to purchase….is not as easy as you might think. Living in Minnesota, they can only be found in specialty pet stores and or at-home breeders. A few pet shops that stated online that they had some hedgehogs, but when I called they did not have any. So I gave up on the hedgehog search.
But, it was meant to be. This summer I interned in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Apparently Wisconsin is a state with a good amount of hedgehog breeders! Another girl interning with me also had a hedgehog, and once I saw her’s it was confirmed that I wanted my own. I drove to the nearest one which was about 30 minutes away, and got to take home my little buddy!
Do your research before getting a hedgehog! If you want a pet that you can cuddle up to each night, this is not the pet for you. They naturally roll into a ball as a defense mechanism, and therefore the quills spike out. It is uncomfortable to hold in your hand when they are like this! I typically wear gloves when first taking Willis out. They also always sound like they are puffing out air while shaking. This is normal! Due to their poor eyesight, they use smell (the puffing noise) as a way to get a feel for their surroundings. Surprisingly Willis was not too terrified of the little dog Daisy! So just picture this: Lucky me 6am at the airport.
Here I am getting a pat down between my legs in this super long denim dress. She even asks if I would like to go to a private room. I respond with no. Honestly if I could have I would have just taken the dress off so that they could see that the metal was on the buttons and there is nothing hidden up the long length of this dress.
Denim has been huge lately. Although the more grunge-esque looks have been making headlines, I still was drawn to this very clean-cut denim dress. Well actually, the $20.00 price tag in Macy’s clearance section for Rachel Roy is what caught my eye first. Funny story… so Rachel Roy has some quality fabrics. This isn’t some Forever 21 bought at cost for $3.00 denim. Therefore, the dress is made of higher quality denim, and was significantly heavy and thick!
Note to self: Do not wear this dress to the airport ever again.
Initially I paired this dress with a light blue cotton button down shirt. After snapchatting my security experience, I also was getting responses pertaining to my ensemble. What I thought was initially cute at 4:30am when I was getting ready, was apparently in reality something that looked like what a Kindergarten teacher would wear. I do have my own style, which not everyone agrees with from time to time, but once I had some more coffee in me, I could not agree more.
First stop in Times Square: to find a new shirt. At Forever 21 I found the perfect crop top that also gives the illusion that I am wearing a choker. Later on in the day, I purchased some red velvet shoes as an impulse buy from Express. (Not very comfortable at all) but they add the perfect touch to each outfit i’ve paired them with lately.
There is a color-correcting set available with almost every single beauty brand at Sephora. How does one choose which one will work the best? Are the more expensive ones worth it? NEVER buy color-correcting products that are from a drugstore and under $10. I love to get mascara and eyeliners from drugstores, but when you are looking for something that will actually help improve your skin coloring, it is worth it to splurge a little more. I have tried a $6 color corrector from an off-brand, and let me tell you it did… nothing. Now this does not mean that you need the most expensive one, but I definitely recommend meeting with one of the beauty consultants in the store before just adding one to your cart. Because I have combination skin, I wanted to get something where all of the color correcting colors were in one palette vs. buying multiple separate ones at $30 a piece.
I decided on: Tarte’s Limited-edition Wipeout Color-Correcting Palette for $45.00
(Check out their other water edition products, they are amazing and have such cute packaging)
My main skin issue: Dark spots from acne after I have put on foundation, as well as redness in these areas as well
Just make sure to blend well after applying the corrections, and do not forget to moisturize before! A harder brush will be needed in order to have the color-correcting product transfer onto the brush. When trying a new soft and fluffy brush, it was not transferring.
The look completed is shown above! One of my favorite lip products from Tarte: Their Matte lip colors - I chose “The Tarteist Lip Colors” in shade Bestie
Looking for something that you will be able to wear all day while running errands, and later transition into the night effortlessly?
One pieces are huge right now and are very versatile! At first glance this sheer striped long sleeve may not look like it should be worn during the day.
This particular one piece is from Forever 21--which is the only place that I will sporadically purchase fast fashion. Forever 21 does have a large assortment of fast fashion pieces that you know will immediately depreciate in value the moment they go through the washing machine. After taking a textiles analysis class, I have a stronger intuition when it comes to picking out clothing pieces in relation to their quality. Most apparel items are marked up by 80% from cost, so think twice when purchasing that $1.99 tank top from Forever 21.
The reason why I chose this piece was that it can be fluctuate into multiple pieces due to the fact that it is sheer underneath. One night you can wear a bandeau under it. The other, a full tank, or a full t-shirt only exposing the arms. Another night you can throw some lace under it, etc. Some people might not even know you are wearing the same piece over and over since it is very versatile when mixing and matching.
Due to the temperature being in the high 40s, and spending a day walking up and down soho, I chose to go with the bandeau. Underneath I have a spandex bandeau from urban outfitters, which I luckily do not even need to wear a bra with. (Small chest perks). The denim is from J Brand, in a high waisted fit. The fur vest is from Saks Fifth Avenue, and it rabbit (sorry to all of the anti-animal apparel but it was just so soft!)
As for my accessories, the socks are from American Apparel. I love, love, love the fold over tulle fabric detailing. The shoes are my pop of color, from Express. Although they look cute, I must say my feet wanted to kill me by the end of the day. My watch is Michael Kors, with a little sense of sparkle throughout the detailing. Bracelet is Alex & Ani... I am so addicted as I now have 8 of them. Rings are from Saks Fifth Ave OFF 5th, and the eye ring is off of Amazon. The bag is Valentino. I love this size for a bag due to the fact that it can fit EVERYTHING. Even my laptop fits without any squeezing.
Turning this into a Night Look:
No time to change? Just take off the fur vest, and you are ready for a night out! I also may advise swapping the bag out for a smaller one. Just like that the outfit goes from being warm and cozy with some detailing in the sheer arms, to sexy and fun with just the bandeau.
These red velvet booties are from Express. The merchandise assortment of velvet booties can be found anywhere from fast fashion, to luxury retail. The velvet adds a spark of individuality to each outfit. I highly recommend adding a pair to your closest.
The true die hard heavy metal rock band lovers will shake their heads at this trend. A good majority of girls wearing this look
a). Do not even know the band on it, couldn't even try to list a song by them
b). Have never even listened to this Genre
c). The shirts aren't real as retailers like F21, H&M, and Pretty Little Thing are selling them
d). We aren't trying to look rocker-esque, this is a cute outfit
Piecing it Together:
Wether you get your oversized tee from somewhere vintage, a friend, or a fast fashion retailer, it does not matter. I ordered mine from Prettylittlething.com, just so that I knew it would be long enough, vs. having a mens XL become a questionable length (long torso problems).
Jacket: This is a vintage denim oversized jacket
Shoes: Thigh high booties
Bralette: Victorias Secret Pink
Smokey Eye: Done by @Mariaelena_gambino
Using the NAKED by Urban Decay Smokey Palette
Grab a friend! This look is so much better with a friend by your side, double the trendiness - never anything wrong with that. This is MariaElena sporting a vintage tee, tights, and some heeled combat boots.
Target for a lot of us results in buying a bunch of things we really don't need at the moment (or ever), yet we still talk ourselves into buying them. Maybe it is the merchandise presentation, the color scheme, or the power of the Red Card. What I have really noticed in the last few years is how adaptable Target has become to fast fashion. The mixture of the trend team and the buying office have been making great decisions. What really stood out to me was their holiday assortment.
After seeing this gold pantsuit I immediately told myself that I needed it (even though I didn't really). I even had a sales associate take the last small off of the mannequin because there were none left on the fixture. So where did I decide to wear this must have from the Exhilaration line?
This location actually is not a tower, nor is it technically open as a museum like space. This is actually a set of offices. The exterior of the building is nothing like the inside.
Wall Art & Decor:

Choker: Saks Fifth Ave OFF 5th
Bracelets: Marc Jacobs
For NYE I wanted to sway away from the typical sparkles everywhere look. Pretty Little Thing ships to both the UK and the US. It has been one of my favorite fast fashion retailers lately. Although it is not as cheap as Forever 21 at the initial glance, if you subscribe to the emails sales occur every week! I got this during the Black Friday sale which was crazy cheap. The dress did not come with anything under it, therefore I am wearing a bandeau and a high waisted swimsuit bottom underneath. I paired it with a thick choker from Saks Fifth Ave OFF 5th to add that little hint of New Years glitz.
