One of my good friends has had acrylics since the begininng of high school. I had never had them before, so this summer I tried it out. I mean who else is annoyed with doing their own nails and even after a top coat or two having them chip the next day? Umm ME!
Among the popular shapes I chose the coffin shape, and got a light purple in the matte finish. I had seen the matte finish all over social media, and it was worth the extra few dollars.
THE VERDICT: After the nails were glued on and fully dry (I got gel polish as well so that the color would last longer) I was still terrified that I would break one or chip it! When it came time to pay, I was even afraid to grab my credit card out of my wallet.
Looking back at this now, I laugh at my rookie self.
REAILITY: These nails are glued on for GOOD. No need to fret over breaking or chipping one, that glue is strong. The only time I had one break was playing basketball and the ball was slammed into my finger. Nails will fall off time to time, that just means they were not put on with enough glue, or you went to a cheap place. Typically it is $3.00 to get one nail put on. But if it fell off within the first 48 hours I would complain and have them fix it for free. They should not be falling off that easy!
THE PAIN: My fingers for the first two days were atually sore! Basically you are using new muscles that you have not used before with these long suckers. Especially when it comes to texting! If you do not want to make that clicking noise, you must push firmly down onto the top of your finger pad. After an Advil and some training of these fingers, life was fabulous! I actually felt a little more confidence with these nails.
THE STRUGGLE: I learned the hard way getting these during an internship where the keyboards are not flat, and the clacking sound while typing was real. Other daily struggles start to occur such as trying not to get lotion stuck under your nails, trying to open things more carefully with them on, and you just feel excessive with these nails when working out and lifting weights.
THE BEST PART: Your hands will look fabulous and photo/Instagram ready in every picture you take.
